Is inter galactic travel via water media possible? The specialty of water has been best understood by everyone. A glass of pure oxygenated water can ignite a new leash of life into any species on this planet.

But is it possible to use this water as a media to connect different dimensions? The four dimensions discovered so far by the humans are not linked for some reason. It seems as if there is/are missing dimensions and hence the irregularity and discontinuity. Is water the missing link to connect these dimensions? Can it be used as media to travel beyond speed of light?

The entire system of this universe is a cycle which has no beginning and no end: only specific time intervals which can be used for the purpose of references. In this system everything is cyclic. Every one gets an equal opportunity for whatever they desire.

Dinosaurs ruled this planet until they became extinct. Then came the Ice Age of which no one has a record; but certainly some species was in majority that time. Similiarly, the human species is ruling Earth. It is time we realise that the process for extinction of Human Civilisation has commenced as it can be notices with the everyday turbulence in every sphere of our life.

Which is next inline to take over supermacy of this planet is yet to be seen?

Unanswered Questions:Time Travel

There are many questions and mysteries surrounding the fourth dimension of time. Humans can travel all the three dimensions, what remains a mystery is the travel of fourth dimension popularly known as time to us.

The popular belief is that one can only travel this dimension in one direction and that too in the positive direction. The reasoning given so far by the scientists is that this is done due to "paradox." Time travel is done via wormholes which are ripples/holes/crevasses/gaps in the fourth dimension. Black holes are assumed to be natural time machines as of now.

However I am a firm believer (only a believer as I have no solid proof for my belief) that there are more than four dimensions and dimensions to wrap into one another. This implies that I can be present in different dimensions maybe or may not be separated by time. Similarly, time can also wrap into itself. It is also believed that nothing can travel faster than light and even time slows itself down to maintain this law of nature. But is this how far we have gone? Is there another dimension which does something more than speed of light and where metres/second does not make sense and other units of measurement are used?

Remember, this is only a belief by me and no official theory/proof is available to support it.

LIFE FORMATTED--HARD DISK STILL SPINNING.

I woke up today morning 15mins ago...quarter to five. It was reality,dream or one of the super sciences of this alien I have been talking about all through out my blog is still a question mark. All my blogs except the first one or if I remember vaguely one or two more in between had been totally someone else thought process being forwarded by me. This entire episode made me wonder are his ways of dealing so methodical and scientific, that it makes us the humans feel tiny?

I am a firm believer there is a science existing which is superior than science known to us. This superior science is beyond the science of space and time known to humans. This experience further took me closer to the fact that what is this alien science which is only for the benefit of humanity and for the purpose of this entire system known as Universe.

I felt in my dream(at this point I can say that this is not a dream but a sensation, cause even as I type it all out I can still feel the sensation running through my veins), as if its a new birth for me.

In this sensation a team of aliens(looked like humans to me but after their work I guess I call them aliens) come over and are doing a study upon me and one more of my friend whose coordinates I cannot place right now. I dont think that he is my friend in real world, but in that sensation he is my best friend; my team mate. We could live and die together and maybe that is why we were chosen for this alien procedure.

Such things I understand are not meant be disclosed in an open forum like internet, but since the keyboard has been my pen and paper for a decade so my thought process flows naturally when my fingers are moving over a keyboard and the idea of putting it on the blog is that I will be saved from the responsibility of taking care of the piece of paper and its contents. Moreover it is getting logged for me with a date and time stamp. This will facilitate my later references.

In the sensation we both are assigned mission since we both are the best bet. We fulfill the mission successfully(or was it from that mission that the next stage of procedure took off I have a vague memory of how we reached the next stage), but as we are celebrating we both are told about the procedure. The procedure shakes my soul. I am coining the terminology for this procedure from my own low IQ mind as of now; if I can say the procedure can be termed as LIFE FORMATTED--HARD DISK STILL SPINNING.

The procedure is supposed to as we may say put our lives on a suspend and we are analysed for our weakness. I am analysed for my weakness and my weakness is "high ...... ......."(I feel I should not share my weakness in this public forum, but I do remember it). In this procedure a bike rider arrives and takes me forcibly to the lab. He carries me on a 350cc Bullet En-field Standard Model Black color(my favorite motor bike).

The procedure begins and I am taken to a hall after all the data about me has been extracted by them(scientists/aliens ..looked very much human to me but are going to perform a procedure never heard of before). In the hall I am made to sit and told that I am the one along with one more who is going to be 'formatted(as I put it).' All along, since the start of this experiment, there is one person with whom I have been associated since past 17 years, is besides me, hence I feel no fear at the commencement of this procedure. The scientists inform me that they would clear every data from my hard disk along with my weakness except the time and activities I have spent with the person.

The procedure commences with some instrument placed on my ears. A music is plays and I am returned from where I was initially picked up by the bike rider. Now begins stage three of the experiment.

The restoring of data as I call it. I am informed that initially I will not remember anything. I will be like a new born but in my present physical appearance. This commenced the process of restoration. I am made to go through all the major events of my life and meet all the people who are close to me in my life and truly I dont remember anything (or even if I remembered few things I feigned ignorance and chose to flow with the procedure).

Yes! truly slowly I start reading and start placing things of my life in order. During this I remember I went a bit wild and i was controlled by one of the members of the team that carried a small baton with a button at the head of the baton. The button is pressed and I am jolted with something.The restoration continues till I woke up today morning 0445hours and started blogging this sensation.

Only this super-scientist knows what are his intentions or what are his intents. I also admit that all these words are no match to actually what happened to me during that entire procedure. The sensation and the feeling are beyond the dimensions known to us the humans. I feel I am non-deserving for this sensation which I was made to go through.

Hindu Calendars

The other day I was talking to one of my colleagues Gola Kiran and then suddenly after a swig or two the topic drifted from NAT to cosmos and to the Hinduism which has been a way of life and not actually a religion.

It was he who brought to my notice that all Hindu festivals are as per the Lunar Calendar and only Makar Sakranti is as per the Solar Calendar. Hindus use Lunar Calendar due its accuracy. The moon is closer to Earth vis a vis Sun and hence easier calculations and more precise and accurate.

Makar Sakranti is always celebrated on 14Jan of each year. This marks the North Hemisphere of the Earth being tilted towards the sun. The north pole is now pointing towards the Sun. Due to the change in tilt of the Earth's Axis how is it going to affect the dates of this festival, is yet to be recorded.

Does God Play Dice?

This lecture is about whether we can predict the future, or whether it is arbitrary and random. In ancient times, the world must have seemed pretty arbitrary. Disasters such as floods or diseases must have seemed to happen without warning, or apparent reason. Primitive people attributed such natural phenomena, to a pantheon of gods and goddesses, who behaved in a capricious and whimsical way. There was no way to predict what they would do, and the only hope was to win favour by gifts or actions. Many people still partially subscribe to this belief, and try to make a pact with fortune. They offer to do certain things, if only they can get an A-grade for a course, or pass their driving test.

Gradually however, people must have noticed certain regularities in the behaviour of nature. These regularities were most obvious, in the motion of the heavenly bodies across the sky. So astronomy was the first science to be developed. It was put on a firm mathematical basis by Newton, more than 300 years ago, and we still use his theory of gravity to predict the motion of almost all celestial bodies. Following the example of astronomy, it was found that other natural phenomena also obeyed definite scientific laws. This led to the idea of scientific determinism, which seems first to have been publicly expressed by the French scientist, Laplace. I thought I would like to quote you Laplace's actual words, so I asked a friend to track them down. They are in French of course, not that I expect that would be any problem with this audience. But the trouble is, Laplace was rather like Prewst, in that he wrote sentences of inordinate length and complexity. So I have decided to para-phrase the quotation. In effect what he said was, that if at one time, we knew the positions and speeds of all the particles in the universe, then we could calculate their behaviour at any other time, in the past or future. There is a probably apocryphal story, that when Laplace was asked by Napoleon, how God fitted into this system, he replied, 'Sire, I have not needed that hypothesis.' I don't think that Laplace was claiming that God didn't exist. It is just that He doesn't intervene, to break the laws of Science. That must be the position of every scientist. A scientific law, is not a scientific law, if it only holds when some supernatural being, decides to let things run, and not intervene.

The idea that the state of the universe at one time determines the state at all other times, has been a central tenet of science, ever since Laplace's time.It implies that we can predict the future, in principle at least.In practice, however, our ability to predict the future is severely limited by the complexity of the equations, and the fact that they often have a property called chaos. As those who have seen Jurassic Park will know, this means a tiny disturbance in one place, can cause a major change in another. A butterfly flapping its wings can cause rain in Central Park, New York. The trouble is, it is not repeatable. The next time the butterfly flaps its wings, a host of other things will be different, which will also influence the weather. That is why weather forecasts are so unreliable.

Despite these practical difficulties, scientific determinism, remained the official dogma throughout the 19th century. However, in the 20th century, there have been two developments that show that Laplace's vision, of a complete prediction of the future, can not be realised. The first of these developments was what is called, quantum mechanics. This was first put forward in 1900, by the German physicist, Max Planck, as an ad hoc hypothesis, to solve an outstanding paradox. According to the classical 19th century ideas, dating back to Laplace, a hot body, like a piece of red hot metal, should give off radiation.t would lose energy in radio waves, infra red, visible light, ultra violet, x-rays, and gamma rays, all at the same rate. Not only would this mean that we would all die of skin cancer, but also everything in the universe would be at the same temperature, which clearly it isn't. However, Planck showed one could avoid this disaster, if one gave up the idea that the amount of radiation could have just any value, and said instead that radiation came only in packets or quanta of a certain size. It is a bit like saying that you can't buy sugar loose in the supermarket, but only in kilogram bags. The energy in the packets or quanta, is higher for ultra violet and x-rays, than for infra red or visible light. This means that unless a body is very hot, like the Sun, it will not have enough energy, to give off even a single quantum of ultra violet or x-rays. That is why we don't get sunburn from a cup of coffee.

Planck regarded the idea of quanta, as just a mathematical trick, and not as having any physical reality, whatever that might mean. However, physicists began to find other behaviour, that could be explained only in terms of quantities having discrete, or quantised values, rather than continuously variable ones. For example, it was found that elementary particles behaved rather like little tops, spinning about an axis. But the amount of spin couldn't have just any value. It had to be some multiple of a basic unit. Because this unit is very small, one does not notice that a normal top really slows down in a rapid sequence of discrete steps, rather than as a continuous process. But for tops as small as atoms, the discrete nature of spin is very important.

It was some time before people realised the implications of this quantum behaviour for determinism. It was not until 1926, that Werner Heisenberg, another German physicist, pointed out that you couldn't measure both the position, and the speed, of a particle exactly. To see where a particle is, one has to shine light on it. But by Planck's work, one can't use an arbitrarily small amount of light.One has to use at least one quantum. This will disturb the particle, and change its speed in a way that can't be predicted. To measure the position of the particle accurately, you will have to use light of short wave length, like ultra violet, x-rays, or gamma rays. But again, by Planck's work, quanta of these forms of light have higher energies than those of visible light. So they will disturb the speed of the particle more. It is a no win situation: the more accurately you try to measure the position of the particle, the less accurately you can know the speed, and vice versa. This is summed up in the Uncertainty Principle that Heisenberg formulated; the uncertainty in the position of a particle, times the uncertainty in its speed, is always greater than a quantity called Planck's constant, divided by the mass of the particle.

Laplace's vision, of scientific determinism, involved knowing the positions and speeds of the particles in the universe, at one instant of time. So it was seriously undermined by Heisenberg's Uncertainty principle. How could one predict the future, when one could not measure accurately both the positions, and the speeds, of particles at the present time? No matter how powerful a computer you have, if you put lousy data in, you will get lousy predictions out.Einstein was very unhappy about this apparent randomness in nature. His views were summed up in his famous phrase, 'God does not play dice'. He seemed to have felt that the uncertainty was only provisional: but that there was an underlying reality, in which particles would have well defined positions and speeds, and would evolve according to deterministic laws, in the spirit of Laplace. This reality might be known to God, but the quantum nature of light would prevent us seeing it, except through a glass darkly.

Einstein's view was what would now be called, a hidden variable theory. Hidden variable theories might seem to be the most obvious way to incorporate the Uncertainty Principle into physics. They form the basis of the mental picture of the universe, held by many scientists, and almost all philosophers of science. But these hidden variable theories are wrong. The British physicist, John Bell, who died recently, devised an experimental test that would distinguish hidden variable theories. When the experiment was carried out carefully, the results were inconsistent with hidden variables. Thus it seems that even God is bound by the Uncertainty Principle, and can not know both the position, and the speed, of a particle. So God does play dice with the universe. All the evidence points to him being an inveterate gambler, who throws the dice on every possible occasion.Other scientists were much more ready than Einstein to modify the classical 19th century view of determinism. A new theory, called quantum mechanics, was put forward by Heisenberg, the Austrian, Erwin Schroedinger, and the British physicist, Paul Dirac. Dirac was my predecessor but one, as the Lucasian Professor in Cambridge. Although quantum mechanics has been around for nearly 70 years, it is still not generally understood or appreciated, even by those that use it to do calculations. Yet it should concern us all, because it is a completely different picture of the physical universe, and of reality itself. In quantum mechanics, particles don't have well defined positions and speeds.Instead, they are represented by what is called a wave function. This is a number at each point of space. The size of the wave function gives the probability that the particle will be found in that position. The rate, at which the wave function varies from point to point, gives the speed of the particle. One can have a wave function that is very strongly peaked in a small region. This will mean that the uncertainty in the position is small. But the wave function will vary very rapidly near the peak, up on one side, and down on the other. Thus the uncertainty in the speed will be large. Similarly, one can have wave functions where the uncertainty in the speed is small, but the uncertainty in the position is large.

The wave function contains all that one can know of the particle, both its position, and its speed. If you know the wave function at one time, then its values at other times are determined by what is called the Schroedinger equation. Thus one still has a kind of determinism, but it is not the sort that Laplace envisaged. Instead of being able to predict the positions and speeds of particles, all we can predict is the wave function. This means that we can predict just half what we could, according to the classical 19th century view.

Although quantum mechanics leads to uncertainty, when we try to predict both the position and the speed, it still allows us to predict, with certainty, one combination of position and speed. However, even this degree of certainty, seems to be threatened by more recent developments. The problem arises because gravity can warp space-time so much, that there can be regions that we don't observe.

Interestingly enough, Laplace himself wrote a paper in 1799 on how some stars could have a gravitational field so strong that light could not escape, but would be dragged back onto the star. He even calculated that a star of the same density as the Sun, but two hundred and fifty times the size, would have this property. But although Laplace may not have realised it, the same idea had been put forward 16 years earlier by a Cambridge man, John Mitchell, in a paper in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. Both Mitchell and Laplace thought of light as consisting of particles, rather like cannon balls, that could be slowed down by gravity, and made to fall back on the star. But a famous experiment, carried out by two Americans, Michelson and Morley in 1887, showed that light always travelled at a speed of one hundred and eighty six thousand miles a second, no matter where it came from. How then could gravity slow down light, and make it fall back.This was impossible, according to the then accepted ideas of space and time. But in 1915, Einstein put forward his revolutionary General Theory of Relativity. In this, space and time were no longer separate and independent entities. Instead, they were just different directions in a single object called space-time. This space-time was not flat, but was warped and curved by the matter and energy in it.In order to understand this, considered a sheet of rubber, with a weight placed on it, to represent a star. The weight will form a depression in the rubber, and will cause the sheet near the star to be curved, rather than flat. If one now rolls marbles on the rubber sheet, their paths will be curved, rather than being straight lines. In 1919, a British expedition to West Africa, looked at light from distant stars, that passed near the Sun during an eclipse. They found that the images of the stars were shifted slightly from their normal positions. This indicated that the paths of the light from the stars had been bent by the curved space-time near the Sun. General Relativity was confirmed.Consider now placing heavier and heavier, and more and more concentrated weights on the rubber sheet. They will depress the sheet more and more. Eventually, at a critical weight and size, they will make a bottomless hole in the sheet, which particles can fall into, but nothing can get out of.

What happens in space-time according to General Relativity is rather similar. A star will curve and distort the space-time near it, more and more, the more massive and more compact the star is. If a massive star, which has burnt up its nuclear fuel, cools and shrinks below a critical size, it will quite literally make a bottomless hole in space-time, that light can't get out of. Such objects were given the name Black Holes, by the American physicist John Wheeler, who was one of the first to recognise their importance, and the problems they pose. The name caught on quickly. To Americans, it suggested something dark and mysterious, while to the British, there was the added resonance of the Black Hole of Calcutta. But the French, being French, saw a more risqué meaning. For years, they resisted the name, trou noir, claiming it was obscene. But that was a bit like trying to stand against le weekend, and other franglais. In the end, they had to give in. Who can resist a name that is such a winner?We now have observations that point to black holes in a number of objects, from binary star systems, to the centre of galaxies. So it is now generally accepted that black holes exist. But, apart from their potential for science fiction, what is their significance for determinism. The answer lies in a bumper sticker that I used to have on the door of my office: Black Holes are Out of Sight. Not only do the particles and unlucky astronauts that fall into a black hole, never come out again, but also the information that they carry, is lost forever, at least from our region of the universe. You can throw television sets, diamond rings, or even your worst enemies into a black hole, and all the black hole will remember, is the total mass, and the state of rotation. John Wheeler called this, 'A Black Hole Has No Hair.' To the French, this just confirmed their suspicions.

As long as it was thought that black holes would continue to exist forever, this loss of information didn't seem to matter too much. One could say that the information still existed inside the black hole. It is just that one can't tell what it is, from the outside. However, the situation changed, when I discovered that black holes aren't completely black. Quantum mechanics causes them to send out particles and radiation at a steady rate. This result came as a total surprise to me, and everyone else. But with hindsight, it should have been obvious. What we think of as empty space is not really empty, but it is filled with pairs of particles and anti particles. These appear together at some point of space and time, move apart, and then come together and annihilate each other. These particles and anti particles occur because a field, such as the fields that carry light and gravity, can't be exactly zero. That would mean that the value of the field, would have both an exact position (at zero), and an exact speed or rate of change (also zero). This would be against the Uncertainty Principle, just as a particle can't have both an exact position, and an exact speed. So all fields must have what are called, vacuum fluctuations. Because of the quantum behaviour of nature, one can interpret these vacuum fluctuations, in terms of particles and anti particles, as I have described.

These pairs of particles occur for all varieties of elementary particles. They are called virtual particles, because they occur even in the vacuum, and they can't be directly measured by particle detectors. However, the indirect effects of virtual particles, or vacuum fluctuations, have been observed in a number of experiments, and their existence confirmed. If there is a black hole around, one member of a particle anti particle pair may fall into the hole, leaving the other member without a partner, with which to annihilate. The forsaken particle may fall into the hole as well, but it may also escape to a large distance from the hole, where it will become a real particle, that can be measured by a particle detector. To someone a long way from the black hole, it will appear to have been emitted by the hole.
This explanation of how black holes ain't so black, makes it clear that the emission will depend on the size of the black hole, and the rate at which it is rotating. But because black holes have no hair, in Wheeler's phrase, the radiation will be otherwise independent of what went into the hole. It doesn't matter whether you throw television sets, diamond rings, or your worst enemies, into a black hole. What comes back out will be the same.

So what has all this to do with determinism, which is what this lecture is supposed to be about. What it shows is that there are many initial states, containing television sets, diamond rings, and even people, that evolve to the same final state, at least outside the black hole. But in Laplace's picture of determinism, there was a one to one correspondence between initial states, and final states. If you knew the state of the universe at some time in the past, you could predict it in the future. Similarly, if you knew it in the future, you could calculate what it must have been in the past. The advent of quantum theory in the 1920s reduced the amount one could predict by half, but it still left a one to one correspondence between the states of the universe at different times. If one knew the wave function at one time, one could calculate it at any other time.

With black holes, however, the situation is rather different. One will end up with the same state outside the hole, whatever one threw in, provided it has the same mass. Thus there is not a one to one correspondence between the initial state, and the final state outside the black hole. There will be a one to one correspondence between the initial state, and the final state both outside, and inside, the black hole. But the important point is that the emission of particles, and radiation by the black hole, will cause the hole to lose mass, and get smaller. Eventually, it seems the black hole will get down to zero mass, and will disappear altogether. What then will happen to all the objects that fell into the hole, and all the people that either jumped in, or were pushed? They can't come out again, because there isn't enough mass or energy left in the black hole, to send them out again. They may pass into another universe, but that is not something that will make any difference, to those of us prudent enough not to jump into a black hole. Even the information, about what fell into the hole, could not come out again when the hole finally disappears. Information can not be carried free, as those of you with phone bills will know. Information requires energy to carry it, and there won't be enough energy left when the black hole disappears.What all this means is, that information will be lost from our region of the universe, when black holes are formed, and then evaporate. This loss of information will mean that we can predict even less than we thought, on the basis of quantum theory. In quantum theory, one may not be able to predict with certainty, both the position, and the speed of a particle. But there is still one combination of position and speed that can be predicted.In the case of a black hole, this definite prediction involves both members of a particle pair. But we can measure only the particle that comes out. There's no way even in principle that we can measure the particle that falls into the hole. So, for all we can tell, it could be in any state. This means we can not make any definite prediction, about the particle that escapes from the hole. We can calculate the probability that the particle has this or that position, or speed. But there's no combination of the position and speed of just one particle that we can definitely predict, because the speed and position will depend on the other particle, which we don't observe. Thus it seems Einstein was doubly wrong when he said, God does not play dice. Not only does God definitely play dice, but He sometimes confuses us by throwing them where they can't be seen.

Many scientists are like Einstein, in that they have a deep emotional attachment to determinism. Unlike Einstein, they have accepted the reduction in our ability to predict, that quantum theory brought about. But that was far enough. They didn't like the further reduction, which black holes seemed to imply. They have therefore claimed that information is not really lost down black holes. But they have not managed to find any mechanism that would return the information. It is just a pious hope that the universe is deterministic, in the way that Laplace thought. I feel these scientists have not learnt the lesson of history. The universe does not behave according to our pre-conceived ideas. It continues to surprise us.

One might not think it mattered very much, if determinism broke down near black holes. We are almost certainly at least a few light years, from a black hole of any size. But, the Uncertainty Principle implies that every region of space should be full of tiny virtual black holes, which appear and disappear again. One would think that particles and information could fall into these black holes, and be lost. Because these virtual black holes are so small, a hundred billion billion times smaller than the nucleus of an atom, the rate at which information would be lost would be very low. That is why the laws of science appear deterministic, to a very good approximation. But in extreme conditions, like in the early universe, or in high energy particle collisions, there could be significant loss of information. This would lead to unpredictability, in the evolution of the universe.

To sum up, what I have been talking about, is whether the universe evolves in an arbitrary way, or whether it is deterministic.The classical view, put forward by Laplace, was that the future motion of particles was completely determined, if one knew their positions and speeds at one time. This view had to be modified, when Heisenberg put forward his Uncertainty Principle, which said that one could not know both the position, and the speed, accurately. However, it was still possible to predict one combination of position and speed. But even this limited predictability disappeared, when the effects of black holes were taken into account. The loss of particles and information down black holes meant that the particles that came out were random. One could calculate probabilities, but one could not make any definite predictions. Thus, the future of the universe is not completely determined by the laws of science, and its present state, as Laplace thought. God still has a few tricks up his sleeve.

The loss of particles and information down black holes meant that the particles that came out were random. One could calculate probabilities, but one could not make any definite predictions. Thus, the future of the universe is not completely determined by the laws of science, and its present state, as Laplace thought. God still has a few tricks up his sleeve.

Giant icebergs head to watery end at island graveyard

South Georgia is the place where colossal icebergs go to die.

The huge tabular blocks of ice that frequently break off Antarctica get swept towards the Atlantic and then ground on the shallow continental shelf that surrounds the 170km-long island.

As they crumble and melt, they dump billions of tonnes of freshwater into the local marine environment.

UK scientists say the giants have quite dramatic impacts, even altering the food webs for South Georgia's animals.

Those familiar with the epic journey of Ernest Shackleton in 1916 will recall that it was at South Georgia that the explorer sought help to rescue his men stranded on Elephant Island.

The same currents that assisted Shackleton's navigation across the Scotia Sea in the James Caird lifeboat are the same ones that drive icebergs to South Georgia today.

"The scale of some these icebergs is something else," said oceanographer Dr Mark Brandon from the Open University.

"The iceberg known as A-38 had a mass of 300 gigatonnes. It broke up into two fragments, but it also shattered into lots of smaller bergs. Each smaller berg was still fairly big and each dumped lots of freshwater into the system."

Dr Brandon has been presenting his research here at the 2010 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, the largest annual gathering in the world for Earth scientists.

Slow death With a group of colleagues he planted scientific moorings off South Georgia in several hundred metres of water. The moorings held sensors to monitor the physical properties of the water, including temperature, salinity and water velocity. The presence of plankton was also measured.

The moorings were in prime position to capture what happened when the mega-berg A-38 turned up in 2004.

It is one of many tabular blocks, such as B-10A and A-22B, which have been caught at South Georgia, which lies downstream of the Antarctic Peninsula in currents known as the Weddell-Scotia Confluence.

The island's continental shelf extends typically more than 50km from the coast and has an average depth of about 200m, and when the mega-bergs reach the island, they ground and slowly decay.

"All that freshwater has a measurable effect on the structure of the water column," said Dr Brandon. "It changes the currents on the shelf because it changes the seawater's density. It makes the seawater quite a lot cooler as well." A-38 probably put about 100 billion tonnes of freshwater into the local area.

Professor Eugene Murphy, from the British Antarctic Survey, says mega-bergs have important biological impacts.

Dust and rock fragments picked up in Antarctica act as nutrients when they melt out into the ocean, fuelling life such as algae and diatoms right at the bottom of food webs.

But at South Georgia, the giants may on occasions have a more negative consequence, especially in the case of A-38. Some of the data collected by researchers across the territory leads the team to think the berg's great bulk may have acted as a barrier to the inflow of krill.

These shrimp-like creatures follow the same currents as the bergs and are a vital source of food to many of the island's animals, including its penguins, seals and birds.

In years when there are few krill at South Georgia, the predators that eat them will suffer

poor breeding success.  In really bad years, the beaches of South Georgia can be littered with

dead pups and chicks, Professor Murphy says.

When that berg was sat on the shelf, if was directly in the path of areas that we would normally

think of being the main inflow areas for the krill,&quot; he told BBC News.

It does look as though that year was somewhat unusual.

It was not the worst year but it was one of the more extreme years.  And we haven&#039;t really

got another explanation for what happened in 2004.  So this is partly why we are looking at the

physics of this problem, to see if we can then examine how it may have affected the biology.

Iapetus moon's mighty ridge stirs debate

The mountainous ridge that circles the equator on the Saturnian moon Iapetus is both weird and spectacular.

Discovered in 2004, the icy rim is as much as 20km high and runs fully 1,600km from end to end.
No explanation for its existence has yet won total support; it is a puzzle.
Dr Andrew Dombard and colleagues have now made a compelling case for the ridge being the remains of a huge ring of debris that once orbited Iapetus but which eventually fell on to the moon.
"In my opinion, the ridge at Iapetus, which sits right on the equator, is one of the most amazing features that we've seen in the Solar System," the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) scientist told BBC News.

"Imagine standing at the base of this ridge. You'd be confronted with a mountain of ice that is taller than the tallest mountain on Earth and nearly as tall as Olympus Mons on Mars, the biggest volcano in the Solar System.

"And it runs ram-rod straight off in either direction. You wouldn't see it end; you'd just see the ridge disappear over the horizon."
Dr Dombard has been explaining his team's thinking here at the at the 2010 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, the largest annual gathering in the world for Earth and planetary scientists.
The ridge was first identified in images of the 1,400km-wide moon acquired by the Cassini probe in 2004.
Dr Dombard's group proposes that Iapetus was hit very early in its evolution by another icy body, and that this impact threw an enormous quantity of debris into space.
The researchers argue that this material could then have come together to form a mini-moon or sub-satellite. They liken the situation to the one at dwarf planet Pluto which has a small moon called Charon that was also probably the result of a collision.
Earth's own Moon was almost certainly made this way, too.

But the orbit of the early Iapetus sub-satellite would have decayed over time, the team believes, and tidal forces would have torn it apart to distribute its material in a thick ring around the world.
Over a relatively short period of time, this disc would then have collapsed on to Iapetus to form the ridge we see today.
"Imagine all of these particles coming down horizontally across the equatorial surface at about 400 meters per second, the speed of a rifle bullet, one after the other, like frozen baseballs," said colleague Professor Bill McKinnon from by Washington University in St Louis.
"Particles would impact one by one, over and over again on the equatorial line. At first the debris would have made holes to form a groove that eventually filled up."
Many models have been put forward to explain the line of ice mountains, even ones that involve ring collapse.
Some researchers have proposed that Iapetus could have changed its shape as it began to spin more slowly after its formation.

The stresses from de-spinning, it is said, could have produce warm, buoyant ice in the moon's interior that then rose to the surface at the equator, pushing up its brittle surface to make the ridge.
Dr Dombard told BBC News: "Those models generally invoke global to regional stress fields. Yes you can come up with model where the stresses peak right on the equator, but the stresses 20 degrees off or at the poles may be just as large.
"And so you would expect to see other features on the satellite - not just one feature right on the equator."
Although Iapetus is unique in the Solar System for its ridge, there are hints at another Saturnian moon, Rhea, of perhaps similar processes at work.
Images of Rhea reveal a chain of splotches along its equator where fresh, bluish ice has been exposed on older crater rims.
One suggestion is that these patches could have been uncovered by orbiting material - perhaps a ring - crashing to the surface in the fairly recent past.

Parallel Universes

Everything you're about to read here seems impossible and insane, beyond science fiction. Yet it's all true.

Scientists now believe there may really be a parallel universe - in fact, there may be an infinite number of parallel universes, and we just happen to live in one of them. These other universes contain space, time and strange forms of exotic matter. Some of them may even contain you, in a slightly different form. Astonishingly, scientists believe that these parallel universes exist less than one millimetre away from us. In fact, our gravity is just a weak signal leaking out of another universe into ours.

The same but different

For years parallel universes were a staple of the Twilight Zone. Science fiction writers loved to speculate on the possible other universes which might exist. In one, they said, Elvis Presley might still be alive or in another the British Empire might still be going strong. Serious scientists dismissed all this speculation as absurd. But now it seems the speculation wasn't absurd enough. Parallel universes really do exist and they are much stranger than even the science fiction writers dared to imagine.

Greater dimensions

It all started when superstring theory, hyperspace and dark matter made physicists realise that the three dimensions we thought described the Universe weren't enough. There are actually 11 dimensions. By the time they had finished they'd come to the conclusion that our Universe is just one bubble among an infinite number of membranous bubbles which ripple as they wobble through the eleventh dimension.

A creative touch

Now imagine what might happen if two such bubble universes touched. Neil Turok from Cambridge, Burt Ovrut from the University of Pennsylvania and Paul Steinhardt from Princeton believe that has happened. The result? A very big bang indeed and a new universe was born - our Universe. The idea has shocked the scientific community; it turns the conventional Big Bang theory on its head. It may well be that the Big Bang wasn't really the beginning of everything after all. Time and space all existed before it. In fact Big Bangs may happen all the time.

Of course this extraordinary story about the origin of our Universe has one alarming implication. If a collision started our Universe, could it happen again? Anything is possible in this extra-dimensional cosmos. Perhaps out there in space there is another universe heading directly towards us - it may only be a matter of time before we collide.

Self Analysis--> Why is digital world only 2-bits

It is that time when I have got some time for myself and of course some time for self analysis. So now I can afford to leave the practical world thoughts (as i have often done in past) and get into my own so called "skewed" thought process.

Of course all these thoughts are mine and have no significance over any matter living or dead. They are as skewed as they can be. Maybe the more I try to synchronise myself with the nature's clock the more confused and dumb-struck i keep getting with the system called universe created by this super-alien and super-intelligent being.

We the humans as we so call ourselves have made progress and even to the extent that we were on the verge of creating our own universe, which was officially declared "failed experiment." Maybe it could have been a success but for reasons pertaining to security and all it could have been masked under the hood of failure. Anyways I am in no position to comment on this aspect. But after gathering so much knowledge are we in a position to make our own grain of wheat/rice in our labs without the assistance of natural chemicals like sunlight , soil , water ..etc...

I am baffled and confused about our very own existence. The more I think about it the more I go away from reality. Where does the Answer to my query lie? Is it the science which we humans are exploring or does it lie somewhere else which "Einstein" believed so?

This post may sound unintelligent and dumb but these are absolutely my thought process which is coming out...no masks...no hidden feelings.....

The next aspect which I have always wondered and thought upon is that if every stable system in the world is made up of 3 or multiples of 3 then how come the digital system is surviving with two levels only?

Have we overlooked the third level or have we yet to understand the 3 -levels?

Examples of 3 or multiples of 3 are(stable systems the one to the best of my knowledge--remember my thinking is dumb)

--> Skin has 3 layers..
--> Electrons,protons and neutrons.
--> 3 points of references are needed to align correctly any straight line.
--> Nine planets of the solar system.
--> 3 Dimensions of space as seen by us.
--> Triangulation method to find our location and also to perceive depth.

I am sure people will have many more such examples of 3 and many would also have examples of systems which are not of 3..Even though I am not competent yet to comment on it ..but I strongly believe that all fully discovered systems are in multiples of 3.

So that brings me back to the topic..are we lacking one more level the Digital World? Do we need to work it out more.....?

As a forethought ..string theory goes on to say that the basic building block of the universe are the tiny strings. The vibrations of these strings cause the various shapes and sizes we see around us. If the nucleus of an atom is expanded to the size of the universe then the basic building blocks called 'strings' are the size of the tree on Earth.

As an example the various notes produced by a 'French Horn' are a consequence of varying space and shape and thus the vibrations.

So can I say that there are more than the 3-dimensions of space and one dimension of time known to we the humans. Is there more than one dimension of time? Are there more dimensions that are curled up and have wrapped up into each other? Is there a simple equation of course unknown to us that an easily unwind these dimensions and thus aid us in understanding the simplicity of this universe; which is so far is complex to us as we lack the vision and intelligence to understand it?

Incase the string theorist say that our shape and size depend on how the 'STRINGS' vibrate then incase we get the source code to these strings ...can we hack into them and change our characteristics..physical and other characteristics yet unknown due to lack of our human vision and intelligence?

Pardon my futile thinking but I have always been thinking about it for than 12 years that incase we can resonate and syncronise with the so called universal frequency(frequency at which the string vibrates) can we get the desired knowledge which we are lacking? If we know this frequency can we change the present way of living..can we cure the incurable diseases of physical ailments and OTHERS which are yet not known to us........?

??????This is my skewed thought process which many people can label it as BANANA???????

Further no one can deny the existence of the supernatural power that has put this entire universe in perfect balance ...

As an example

One will realise there is God but it is different as we know it. This is all about higher science ....higher level of science...which we humans lack the intelligence to understand.
Its like we are a 'bit' in a computer machine.The bit doesnt know how it has been created but realises there is a supreme power that is driving this full system
and may term it as God or something else that matches its languages or modes of communication.

I suppose we need to change our thinking about God as we see it...we need to open new dimensions...For that we need to again syncronise and tune ourselves with the supreme power....and get the source code from the creator.

We live in a wonderfully complex universe, and we are curious about it by nature. Time and again we have wondered--- why are we here? Where did we and the world come from? What is the world made of? It is our privilege to live in a time when enormous progress has been made towards finding some of the answers. String theory is our most recent attempt to answer the last (and part of the second) question.

So, what is the world made of? Ordinary matter is made of atoms, which are in turn made of just three basic components: electrons whirling around a nucleus composed of neutrons and protons. The electron is a truly fundamental particle (it is one of a family of particles known as leptons), but neutrons and protons are made of smaller particles, known as quarks. Quarks are, as far as we know, truly elementary.

Our current knowledge about the subatomic composition of the universe is summarized in what is known as the Standard Model of particle physics. It describes both the fundamental building blocks out of which the world is made, and the forces through which these blocks interact. There are twelve basic building blocks. Six of these are quarks--- they go by the interesting names of up, down, charm, strange, bottom and top. (A proton, for instance, is made of two up quarks and one down quark.) The other six are leptons--- these include the electron and its two heavier siblings, the muon and the tauon, as well as three neutrinos.

There are four fundamental forces in the universe: gravity, electromagnetism, and the weak and strong nuclear forces. Each of these is produced by fundamental particles that act as carriers of the force. The most familiar of these is the photon, a particle of light, which is the mediator of electromagnetic forces. (This means that, for instance, a magnet attracts a nail because both objects exchange photons.) The graviton is the particle associated with gravity. The strong force is carried by eight particles known as gluons. Finally, the weak force is transmitted by three particles, the W+, the W- , and the Z.

The behavior of all of these particles and forces is described with impeccable precision by the Standard Model, with one notable exception: gravity. For technical reasons, the gravitational force, the most familiar in our every day lives, has proven very difficult to describe microscopically. This has been for many years one of the most important problems in theoretical physics-- to formulate a quantum theory of gravity.

In the last few decades, string theory has emerged as the most promising candidate for a microscopic theory of gravity. And it is infinitely more ambitious than that: it attempts to provide a complete, unified, and consistent description of the fundamental structure of our universe. (For this reason it is sometimes, quite arrogantly, called a 'Theory of Everything').

The essential idea behind string theory is this: all of the different 'fundamental ' particles of the Standard Model are really just different manifestations of one basic object: a string. How can that be? Well, we would ordinarily picture an electron, for instance, as a point with no internal structure. A point cannot do anything but move. But, if string theory is correct, then under an extremely powerful 'microscope' we would realize that the electron is not really a point, but a tiny loop of string. A string can do something aside from moving--- it can oscillate in different ways. If it oscillates a certain way, then from a distance, unable to tell it is really a string, we see an electron. But if it oscillates some other way, well, then we call it a photon, or a quark, or a ... you get the idea. So, if string theory is correct, the entire world is made of strings!

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about string theory is that such a simple idea works--- it is possible to derive (an extension of) the Standard Model (which has been verified experimentally with incredible precision) from a theory of strings. But it should also be said that, to date, there is no direct experimental evidence that string theory itself is the correct description of Nature. This is mostly due to the fact that string theory is still under development. We know bits and pieces of it, but we do not yet see the whole picture, and we are therefore unable to make definite predictions. In recent years many exciting developments have taken place, radically improving our understanding of what the theory is.

Alien...this word always keeps in me. Even as i keep thinking about the existence of us the HUMANS and the unknown "ALIEN"..I keep referring of and on, i realised that in this vast universe which does not have any boundaries(for us humans all things have boundaries)..that our planet Earth stands nowhere and the mighty Sun may be able to make an impact equivalent to that of a tiny speck..If this is the state of affairs for our planet and our solar system then what are we as humans...THE ANSWER IS ABSOLUTE ZILCH.

Even as one tries to connect and synchronise with the universe, one feels an overwhelming calmness that surrounds him..The wonder of this program is that anyone even if he is as non existent as the human tries to synchronise with the higher layers of this universe,he is adapted with open arms..

This experience cannot be explained in words but needs to be self realised. One can keep on plugging on and off from this vast source of knowledge and if i am allowed i can draw this analogy equivalent to the INTERNET. This internet of humans is having so called all available knowledge of this planet and the information packets arrive asynchronously ...and are assembled at the last hop where it reaches us and our eyes can perceive the information as desired...The refreshing feeling and the sense of conquest one gets when the quest of knowledge is satisfied can be understood by one and all.

How about the universal data bank being managed by this 'Alien,' and what if someone wants to connect to it and what about the feeling one gets..Maybe it can be like a feeling of rebirth...

I am just thinking how will it be to connect to this vast warehouse of knowledge and energy..How do i derive these channels to connect with this universal database...How will i perceive the information...

AS FAR AS I BELIEVE OUR(EARTH) STATUS IS EQUIVALENT TO THAT OF A SINGLE BIT(OR MAYBE EVEN SMALLER THAN A BIT) IN THIS ENTIRE CLOUD OF UNIVERSAL DATABASE MANAGEMENT...

we as humans feel that we are an advanced species and we also believe that we are the best thing that God has ever made!!!

No my dear fellows we are not the best..to answer this first let me ask whois God anyway?? has any one seen the God?? what is superstition??

well to understand this one must read the Vedas which is written in Sanskrit and Sanskrit is the most scientific language that has ever been written..as it is 1024 bit compatible..This language is gonna be used by the future super computers.. all the secrets of the Universe are already exisiting on this planet..it is just that we lack the will to understand it

As an example let me tell you that the Brownian motion which was recently discovered is already mentioned in the Vedas in the form of Natraja dance.The Hindu mythology is a simple way to explain the common Human the secrets of nature...So intelligent were our ancestors that they made the secrets of Universe available to even a common man.It was just that we were unable to interpret it.All this is explained in Puranas.

The Hindu mythology clearly explains that when there was nothing; not even the Universe how things started existing..The Puranas also tell about Matsya (Sanskrit for fish) Avtaar (Incarnation) of Lord Vishnu (the preserver of this Universe) in which the fish is going to survive all the clamities and turmoil of this planet.So do western scientists agree as shown in the Discovery Channel Documentry "past was wild future is wild."So gentlemen what new are we learning..when everything is already there and we are just trying to refresh ourselves.

Let me tell you one more fact which i will support with an example..all languages have emerged out of Sanskrit.As an example take the word "Head." It has come out of Sanskrit word "HuDD" which means a large mass of bones.So what else is skull?Hudd has been tongue twisted to Head.

Similiarly all words in all languages are children of one mother--Sanskrit.That is why Sanskrit is going to be the future language of computing.So much that Sanskrit syllables can cure people from diseases like AIDS ,Cancer and other deadly diseases.This is called voice therapy and there is something called as music therapy.

But let us not digress from the heading..Such talks can go on and on..So i take the above as a intro to my main topic and here i come to the main topic

GOD an alien
Hmm ...let me begin from here ..There is life on every planet and all stars; can be sub surface or maybe sub-sub surface which have adapted to the conditions of that location.Remember our planet's evolution.

It is our lack of infrastructure and knowledge we are unable to connect with them.
Moreover there are more than three dimensions.Our eyes are made (can i say programmed) to observer only xyz axis.

So GOD is an advanced being who stays in such a dimension of time in which he is able to program the entire Universe.Infact he is the super programmer.

So whois Jesus,Allah,Budha .......Well have u ever heard about nanobots.A developer sends these nano-robots into his machine to rectify any small defects without tearing down the entire machinery.Thus he manages to maintain an equilibrium i.e an optimal condition in which the machinery can give optimum performance.These nano-robots get an amplified view of the whole situation whereas the developer though has knowledge of his machine but after certain time he will not know the new changes that took place in his machine.Hence he has to take a feedback from his nano-robots.

So GOD our super programmer keeps on sending his nano-robots in form jesus,Allah,Budha....to get the feedback and use them to maintain the equilibrium of the system so that the machine performs optimally.

im sure our IT programmers have heard about the terminology "ghost codes." It is that piece of code which is born out of already written code and the developer doesnot understand a wee bit about this code.Then to again maintain the balance of his program he has to write a patch.

so we can equate ghosts, evils to ghost codes and from time to time they need to be neutralised to maintain the balance

Hence the bottom line is balance.We donot use peak values of any sine wave we only use the average values cause it is a balanced value. Thus everything is about balance the earlier we understand the better it is..

So now coming to the very major part why do i call GOD as alien...

Alien is A person from another and very different family, people, or place.

Whenever we talk about Aliens we think them to be advanced creatures..
so does anyone has doubts about the advancement of a person who can programm the entire Universe.
